Q: Should I include an objective statement in my resume?
A: Yes! In today's competitive job market it's important to make your online resume as searchable as possible. Adding an objective statement creates more space for you to add keywords (see the "Are Recruiter's Seeing Your Resume" article in the above section). It is also important for recruiters to know exactly what you want from your next job. Your objective statement should include this information.
Q: What should I do if I don't hear from a company after I apply for a position?
A: If a company does not respond to your submission after five business days, you should send a hand-written follow-up note. Address the note directly to the recruiter (if you don't have that information, simply call the company's mainline and ask). In the note let them know what position you have applied for and tell them that you are very interested in learning more about the position. Thank them for taking the time to review your resume and let them know that you hope to hear from them soon. In today's fast paced world, a hand-written note can really make you stand out.
